An innocent question

If your kid's need to know something it doesn't matter where you are in the house they'll track you down to find the answer, a couple days ago my two found me in the bath with legs half shaven to find out the answer to the following...
Baden: " Whats racist mean?"
Me: " It means that you don't like someone because of the colour of their skin, where did you hear about racist?"
Baden, now joined by Tyra: " On the news just then."
Tyra: " Are we racist?"
Me: "We most certainly are not!"
Tyra: "Ahh that's right because we love Uncle Andy!"
Me : " And Luca & Tyler!"
Bades: " And Auntie Deb"
Me: " Of course Auntie Deb too" [Auntie Deb's my sister and as far as I know we're white fellas...see kids don't see in colour when it comes to people]
Me: " You know you wouldn't dislike someone because of the colour of their eye's or the colour of their hair and it's wrong to dislike someone for the colour of their skin. The only reason to dislike someone is if they're unkind to you and if that ever happens you choose not to play with them or not to be around them. Does that make sense?"
They both nodded & left me to continue what I'd started.

I realised at that moment that our kids believe what we tell them to be true & correct,
If we tell them we're racist..they'll believe it!
If we tell them they're worthless... they'll believe it!
If we tell them they're stupid...they'll believe it!

If we tell them they're beautiful...they'll believe it!
If we tell them they're smart...they'll believe it!
If we tell them they're lovable...they'll believe it!

Lets make sure we and the people they are spending lot's of their time with are teaching them how to live in a wonderful world...because they will unless we teach the differently.
